How does the ESCRS multi-formula ring implant surgery calculator work?
We have managed to join, in one place, the
nomograms from various ring manufacturers. We know that
there are different strategies for planning the ring
surgery, and good results can be obtained through
different approaches. Depending on the individual
characteristics of a given patient, plans can be made
with different objectives. For example: prioritizing the
correction of myopia, or prioritizing the correction of
astigmatism, or preparing the eye to receive a second
intervention later. In this way, by entering the
patient's data once, the doctor will have a broad view
of the surgical possibilities suggested by the various
nomograms. In the end, they can choose the most
appropriate suggestion for their patient.
What is the origin of each nomogram
displayed in the ESCRS Rings Calculator?
This tool was only possible to build with the
participation and authorization of the various
manufacturers. The suggestion from each nomogram
reproduces the same result that would be obtained using
the original nomogram from each manufacturer.
Does the ESCRS Rings Calculator
show all the information generated by the original
nomogram?
No. The ESCRS Rings Calculator shows a "summary"
of what is provided by the original nomogram.
Specifically, it displays the segment models indicated
for a specific case. Many (original) nomograms provide
additional data, even images showing the position in
which the segments should be implanted. However, it
would be complex to present all this information in a
simple display that allows an easy comparison among all.
Thus, once the physician has determined which
manufacturer provided the most suitable suggestion for
their patient, a more detailed analysis can be done
using the manufacturer's original nomogram. To
facilitate this consultation, the physician can access
more information from the each manufacturer by clicking
on the corresponding logo.
I think I found an error! What
should I do?
Please report it to us by email at
escrs@escrs.org with as much detail as possible (and
ideally with a screenshot). Feel free to also contribute
suggestions for features you may have for future
versions of our ESCRS Ring Calculator.
